Hello Moonchild :)
Do you sense the energy of this Full Moon? We have the Full Moon peaking on 23rd May and this one brings with it a lightness and joy, much needed after the intense ones so far.
It is also Buddha Purnima. It marks the birth anniversary, enlightenment and death of Gautama Buddha. It is thus an auspicious day for Buddhists who have specific rituals and practices. It occurs to me as themes of beginnings and endings. These are in fact two sides of the same coin. Something has to end or be left behind to make way for something new. Under this Moon it feels like 'a very meaningful new' that can shift your life’s trajectory.
I sense a vibrant energy to this Full Moon. You are presented with this question – how would you like to channelize this energy? This needs to flow from what your context is at the moment. Energy channelized in the wrong direction is only bound to create chaos. If you are already experiencing some tiny conflicts, chances are you aren’t where you are meant to be. When there is alignment with your person and purpose, this Full Moon only propels you forward in a big way.
How can you channelize this Full Moon's energy?
Set aside about an hour ideally after Moonrise on the 23rd.
(To know Moonrise timings, I use the My Moon Phase app)
Choose to do the practice in view of the Full Moon if the weather permits.
You will need a mat, a bowl of water with rock salt dissolved in it, your journal and a pen.
STEP 1
Preparation with movement and breath
Sit in a meditative posture. Observe your connection with Mother Earth. Remember your ancestors and Gurus and seek their blessings. Visualize a Full Moon in your eyebrow centre. As you inhale and exhale a few times, ask the lunar energies to flow through you and guide you.
If you love chanting, you can also do the ‘Om Som Somaiyah Namah’ chant 7 times.
Go through a gentle movement practice. Add poses that aid opening and release for your body. You may even do an intuitive free flowing dance instead.
STEP 2
Become aware of your context – Journal or Speak and record
Answer the following questions either in writing or by speaking into an audio recorder.
What is my focus in life at the moment?
How has it been playing out? Am I making efforts, are there obstacles or is everything progressing smoothly?
Once you write this, read it once. If you recorded your voice, listen to it from beginning to end. Notice what feelings and emotions surface as you read/listen.
STEP 3
Tuning into Lunar Wisdom - Cleansing & Visualization + Breathwork
Cleansing:
Take the bowl of salt water. Dip your fingers in it and smear the water on your feet, palms, heart centre, eyelids, ears, nostrils. Sense the coolness of the water and know that this process is cleansing you energetically. Drink some of the water mindfully,
Visualization + Breathwork:
Sit in a meditative posture. Visualize the luminous Full Moon in your eyebrow centre. With every inhale feel the white light/lunar energy flowing into your body, slowly filling it up. Visualize it eventually pouring into every cell. With every exhale, sense release of all that is not serving you, at a physical, mental and emotional level.
As you progress with this, equalize the duration of your inhales and exhales. Also start observing the pauses between the breaths. These pauses are spaces of silence, spaces that are the source of intuitive wisdom.
Do 28 breaths.
Once done, allow your breath to flow naturally and embrace the resulting silence and stillness.
STEP 4
Reviewing context
Bring to mind your context that you wrote/spoke about. See how that feels for you now.
Proceed with one of the below journaling routes depending on what you resonate with:
If you feel that you are on the right track, mull over this and write about it:
How can I improve my efforts to enhance my progress? Is there anything new that I need to do?
If you feel guided away from the initial context or something new has shown up for you, use the following prompt and write continuously without taking pen off the paper for 5-10 minutes. Do not hold back. Feel free to use the prompt as many times as you like, specially when you face a block.
PROMPT: My heart says…
In either case, read once you finish writing. If anything further occurs to you, put that down too. Once done, pause and take in the experience.
STEP 5
Closing the ritual
Bring back the image of the Full Moon in your eyebrow centre for a few breaths.
Close the ritual by offering gratitude to your ancestors, Gurus, the Moon and Mother Earth.
Wish you an uplifting Full Moon practice! :)
Gratitude
Sheetal
